Kenyan, former UR assistant coach triumph in marathon

Jyocel Basweti, a 22-year-old from Kenya, won the 31st SunTrust Richmond Marathon men’s race this morning with a time of 2:22:22.

Kristin Price, a 26-year-old from Raleigh, N.C., who once served as an assistant track coach at the University of Richmond, won the women’s marathon in 2:45:03.

Basweti defeated runnerup Mohamed Awol, the 2007 SunTrust champion, by nearly two and a half minutes on a warm and increasingly windy day.

The marathon caps a morning of running in Richmond including the McDonald’s Half Marathon and nTELOS 8K
