The Metropolitan Richmond Sports Backers enthusiastically supports the return of minor league baseball to the Richmond Region and the concept for a ballpark in the Shockoe Bottom area, pending a financial agreement between the City of Richmond and the project’s developers.

The statement of support was approved by the Sports Backers’ Board of Directors and came at the conclusion of a recent presentation made before the Board by representatives of Highwoods Properties, the project’s developers. 

Sports Backers is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization founded in October 1991 to build a more vibrant community through sports. The mission of the organization is to “maximize the community benefits of sports tourism.” This mission is accomplished by focusing on three main strategic objectives:
1. Creating, attracting and improving significant sporting events;
2. Serving as a catalyst in the development and utilization of sports facilities, and;
3. Aiding area youth through sports outreach programs.

These activities and programs strengthen the economy, provide health benefits to participants and make the region a more desirable place to live.
