Aug 18, 2008

All running enthusiasts — and those who just want to break a sweat for a good cause — are once again being encouraged to take part in the Powhatan Village Run, one of Central Virginia’s oldest road races.

The Village Run was established in 1981 by Phil Blankenship and Hal Hedley as a community road race for all ages and skill levels. Over the years the race has benefited many causes and donated thousands of dollars to charity. However, the primary purpose of the race has not been to provide a quality road race in a rural and hospitable setting.

When: August 30, 2008
8 a.m. start
(Registration, packet pick-up begins at 7 a.m.)

Where: Elizabeth R. Lewis YMCA in Fighting Creek Park (1/2 mile west of Powhatan Court House at 2269 Mann Rd.)

Fee: $12 before Aug. 28 (T-Shirts to all pre-registered runners) $15 thereafter

Course: The start and finish will be at the Powhatan YMCA in Fighting Creek Park. The course is generally flat with a few gentle hills and will utilize the side roads (and shade) of the Village of Powhatan.
