The Douglas Freeman boys and Deep Run girls continued to reign supreme at the Colonial District track and field meet at Sports Backers Stadium last night.
Off and on rain presented no problem to the victors.
Paced by Michael Quash, the boys meet’s outstanding performer, and Ulrick Smith, Douglas Freeman rolled to a 47-point victory over Deep Run. Quash won the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the 200. Smith captured the 100 and 400 meters.
Lewis McPherson led the Rebels distance runners with second-place finishes in the 800 and 1,600 and anchored the winning 4 x 800 relay team. He was named the winner of the Nelson Hedley Award for distance runners.
Sherry Edwards of the Rebels was named coach of the year.
The Deep Run girls were never threatened, winning the meet by more than 90 points over Douglas Freeman. The Wildcats won nine events. Top performer Ashley Orr won the long jump, triple jump and led off the winning 4 x 100 relay team. She finished third in the 100 dash.
Deep Run’s Courtney Dobbs won the girls version of the Hedley award, and Lake Stockdreher was selected coach of the year.
Christiana Moss of Patrick Henry was a double winner the shot put and discus.
