New Kent boys get 3rd in 1,600 relay; Christian lands 2nd

Eric Watts of Powhatan won the boys’ long jump with 21-1¾ yesterday at the state Group AA track and field meet in Harrisonburg. The New Kent team of Darrell Fenton, Ethan Emmons, Kevin Chavis and Paul Kearney placed third in the 1,600 relay with 3:24.17. Western Albemarle won the boys team title with 54 points.

In the girls, Kayla Christian of New Kent placed second with 18-5¼ in the long jump and seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 13.27. In the 400 relay, the New Kent team of Jalesa Johnson, Britney Byrd, Jessica Jones and Christian placed eighth with 50.63. Brentsville captured the girls title with 45 points.
