Our team in 2008

The Donate Life Team had a great time at the Richmond races!  64 runners and 35 volunteers from the Donate Life Team participated in all the events. The team consisted of people touched by donation and transplantation, including donor families, transplant recipients, living donors and transplant professionals.  The Donate Life Team educated runners and fans about donation at the Health Expo, the party stops and the start and finish line.  Donate Life VA is proud to be the race charity.  Thanks to everyone who wore their green bracelets and Donate Life stickers on their bibs!  And, thank you to everyone who contributed donations to help save lives through organ, eye and tissue donation.

There is a critical shortage of donors in Virginia.  On average, three Virginians die each week waiting for a life saving organ transplant that doesn’t come in time.  100,000 people in the U.S. are waiting for a transplant and 2,500 of those are in Virginia. Virginians can sign up as organ and tissue donors online at save7lives.org or at the DMV. Each donor can save 7 lives, restore sight to 2 people and help more than 50 others.

Heart recipient Sam Stickley, liver recipient Cutter Jones and lung recipient Chris Nalley helped promote donation at the Donate Life finish line table.  Sam and Chris both ran the NTELOS 8K.
